The University's Copyright and Licensing Office
provides centralized management of copyright
issues, including copyright clearance, compliance
review, processing of course reading collections,
etc.
As the timelines for processing requests can
vary, please submit your request well in advance
of your course start date or distribution
date. Typically, 6-8 weeks is sufficient.
This service applies to use of copyright materials
for teaching and learning. This includes course-related
readings and permissions to use other types
of media.
Upon receipt of your request, we review the
collection to ensure compliance with our licences
(UA Libraries e-subscriptions, Access Copyright
licence, Creative Commons, etc.), the University's
Fair Dealing Guidelines, as well as additional
exceptions available under the law.
Where no pre-authorization exists, we will
contact the rightsholders to request permission.
See below for information on copyright clearance
and payment of clearance fees.

You may want to copy an out-of-print
work or in excess of the percentages
permitted by our licences or fair dealing
guidelines. Where no other form of permission
pre-authorizes the copying, we will
contact the rightsholder on your behalf
to request copyright clearance.
If
the rightsholder requests payment for
their grant of rights, we will let you
know the amount prior to proceeding
with the transaction. Upon your authorization,
we will continue with the transaction
and notify you when your file is completed.
Responsiblity for payment of the fees
is as follows: |

Print
course-packs (sold) - The fee
is recovered in sale price of the coursepack
and paid by students. |
 |
Digital
Copies (provided via any method/platform
of delivery) - Department
will be billed. Payment via indent is
required. |
